Below is a list of FAQ's hopefully you will find them useful

1 .How do I buy a plaque?:Contact Coventry Council - the current cost for a plaque and tree is approximately £420.  Purchased separately the cost is £160 for a plaque and £260 for a tree.

2 .What about missing plaques?: I have identified several plaques that are missing, and I am currently working with Coventry Council to trace these.  To report a missing plaque please contact me at and I will add it to their list.

3. How do you know who should have a plaque?: Sadly there are no records in the archives for individuals from WW1 who should have a plaque.  For WW2 a 1948 document exists that shows the members of the public who paid for plaques, this is not an extensive list as plaques have been added over the years.

4. How many plaques are there? There are over 500 plaques, some have multiple names, and some are for individuals who died post war. Several individuals have multiple plaques.

5. Why isn't every individuals' name recognised by the Commonwealth War Grave Commssion?: If an individual died of wounds outside of the CWGC cut-off dates they will not be categorised as a war death. Errors were created when documents were scanned in, for example some G's became C's etc and may be misnamed. I have a list of individuals who are missing and will contact the CWGC to add them to the database, however they will require copies of records as evidence.

6. Not all the information is shown on CWGC ?: The information listed was taken from the returned 'Final Verification Form' provided by the deceased next of kin; in about a third of the cases the Final Verification Form was not returned and this is why information is missing.

7. What's the difference between died of wounds, killed and died ? This is not necessarily 100% accurate on the records. "Died of wounds" means died away from the battlefield, "killed" means died during battle and "died" could be as a result of civilian bombing or from one of the many illnesses during the time.

8. I have found a plaque ? Please take it to the Cafe in War Memmorial Park or to one of the Splash Captains when on duty.

9. I have information on a person mentioned on a plaque ?: Please contact me

10. I can't find a plaque ? Check the Plaque Locator first and if not listed then contact me

11. Do you cover non-war related plaques ? Unfortunately not, these web pages cover war related casualities only.

12. Why did you do this web page ? I had recently researched my family tree involving some member who were killed during WW1, being a frequent visitors to the Park I decided to trace the plaques.

13. Details on CWGC are incorrect ? Please contact them direct, however, they will require evidence to change any details.

14. Where are Roll of Honours kept ? In Coventry Archives or in Local History section in the Central Library

15. How was the Roll of Honour compiled ? By asking citizens of Coventry to identify individuals to a librarian, who then collated the data into the Rolls Of Honour. Some supplements are added to the Roll Of Honour, however during my research I have come across individuals from Coventry who are not mentioned.
